Signature HealthCARE of Galion participates in annual film festival

Signature recently held its Hometown Film Festival, an annual event in which nursing home residents create original films to compete for funds to go on vacation. Scripts are largely written by nursing home residents, who also star in the films. In 2014, more than 25 films were submitting, including the one above by Signature HealthCARE of Galion.

We hope you enjoy!

New Look with the Same Superior Care

Signature HealthCARE has been in the renovation process at the Galion facility.  With phase one almost complete in the $1 million renovation, the facility as a whole is welcoming the new home-style look as an additional way to continue improving the quality of life for both short-term and long-term care and rehabilitation patients.  Signature HealthCARE has been revolutionizing the framework of short-term and long-term care for almost a decade now and leads the market in providing superior healthcare to all their residents and patients.

With the first phase of construction completed, SHC of Galion is continuing to focus on the core components of Signature HealthCARE which are spirituality, entrepreneurship, and education.  Holistic care has proven through independent research to increase one’s quality of life, increase healing, and increase various therapy modalities.  CEO, Daniel Wylie, stated, “The physical changes of the building are important but what is most important is the cultural changes that are taking place.  We strive to make a difference in every one of our residents and stakeholders lives.  We are continuing to earn the trust of our residents on a daily basis through quality healthcare, daily activities, and other therapy modalities.

One of the major differences that sets Signature HealthCARE apart from other short-term and long-term care facilities is the department of spirituality.  Director of Spirituality Chaplain Derrick Martin stated, “Having the freedom to choose to worship in your own way is something that hasn’t been practiced in the realm of long-term care.  Giving not only our residents but also their families and our stakeholders the ability and tools needed to worship and practice their faith and beliefs is significant to the holistic care model.  Our department encourages and promotes all faiths and beliefs and we enjoy that great diversity.”

Signature HealthCARE of Galion will be hosting an open house for the community to come out and visit and see the number of renovations and also talk with residents, stakeholders, and administration.  SHC of Galion works with both medicare and medicaid as well as numerous insurances and supplemental companies.  For more information about SHC of Galion contact us today at 419-468-7544 to schedule a tour.

A trip back in time

Today several elders and staff members went to the Richland Carrousel located in Mansfield, Ohio.  The Richland Carrousel was opened in 1990 and is one of the only few all wooden, hand carved carrousels in the United States.  Mansfield is home of the Carousel Works Company which is known world wide for their handcrafted and hand carved animals and carrousel figures.  The Richland Carrousel has been featured on several television programs including Built in America with John Ratliff.

Taken from the Carrousels website, they state:

The carrousel figures were carved in the style of G. A. Dentzel, one of the most revered carvers of the early 1900’s. All 52 figures were designed, carved and painted by Carousel Works of Mansfield. Carrousel Works also restored the antique rounding boards, mirrors and mural frames. There are 30 horses and 22 menagerie figures, including four bears, four ostriches, four cats, four rabbits, a goat, giraffe, lion, tiger, zebra and a mythical hippocampus (part horse, part fish). A Stinson Band Organ, made by the Stinson Pipe Organ Co. of Bellefontaine, Ohio, provides rousing music for carrousel riders. The inside animals on the carrousel go 3.71 miles per hour while the outside animals go 6.77 MPH.

It was a wonderful time and the elders had a super time of laughs, smiles, and fun!  We are so blessed to be in such a great location in Ohio to have so many various activities to attend.  Several residents said it had been over 50 years since they have been able to go back to the carrousel.

Youngsters Interact With Seniors at Camp Galion

Youngsters got the chance to interact with senior citizens today as Signature Health Care held “Camp Galion.” The summer program allows Signature employees to bring their children to the work place in an effort to help save money on child care and the chance to mingle with the residents. Signature Health Care Quality of Life Director Candy Yocum says the children spent time with the elderly and learned about each others generation. The children also enjoyed some water-themed activities outside with the residents. Later this month, a Christmas in July celebration will take place.

Nature for all ages

Do you love to be outside among nature?  Do you have difficulty managing terrain?  We have found a local park in the Galion area that is handicapped accessible and is very beautiful.  Recently our Chaplain visited Lowe-Volk Park located at 2401 State Route 598 just outside of Galion.  Chaplain Martin took his children to visit the park and was not disappointed!  The park is wheel chair accessible with paved paths in the beautiful woods and around the fully stocked fishing pond.  With numerous activities scheduled throughout the year, this is a beautiful park that is inviting to everyone of all ages.  Chaplain Martin recommends you also visit the visitors center and see the various live animals inside, the indoor bird watching station, and the various classrooms.  Click HERE to visit the Lowe-Volk Park website.
