Hero’s Journey – Bert Stewart

Bert Stewart arrived to SHC of Galion after experiencing multiple medical complications.  He was admitted with a recommendation of NPO, meaning he couldn’t eat or drink anything by mouth.  Bert stated that when he arrived, he felt “weak, run downed, and on my last leg”.   During his therapeutic stay, he received physical, occupational, and speech/dysphagia therapies in addition to nursing care.  He enjoyed therapy, especially the NuStep and exercising with the weights; although, he stated the “weights are heavier when you’re weak”.   Upon his discharge, Bert walked out of the facility and is able to tolerate foods and liquids by mouth with some restrictions. He is excited about returning home to family and his vegetable garden.
