A trip back in time

Today several elders and staff members went to the Richland Carrousel located in Mansfield, Ohio.  The Richland Carrousel was opened in 1990 and is one of the only few all wooden, hand carved carrousels in the United States.  Mansfield is home of the Carousel Works Company which is known world wide for their handcrafted and hand carved animals and carrousel figures.  The Richland Carrousel has been featured on several television programs including Built in America with John Ratliff.

Taken from the Carrousels website, they state:

The carrousel figures were carved in the style of G. A. Dentzel, one of the most revered carvers of the early 1900’s. All 52 figures were designed, carved and painted by Carousel Works of Mansfield. Carrousel Works also restored the antique rounding boards, mirrors and mural frames. There are 30 horses and 22 menagerie figures, including four bears, four ostriches, four cats, four rabbits, a goat, giraffe, lion, tiger, zebra and a mythical hippocampus (part horse, part fish). A Stinson Band Organ, made by the Stinson Pipe Organ Co. of Bellefontaine, Ohio, provides rousing music for carrousel riders. The inside animals on the carrousel go 3.71 miles per hour while the outside animals go 6.77 MPH.

It was a wonderful time and the elders had a super time of laughs, smiles, and fun!  We are so blessed to be in such a great location in Ohio to have so many various activities to attend.  Several residents said it had been over 50 years since they have been able to go back to the carrousel.
